Monday Minute, September 27

Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to seeing you all at conferences this week!  You can also choose to do your conference on Zoom as well.  The Book Fair is open this week, including Tuesday morning before school starts.  There is no school on Friday, because of the two nights of conferences, and Thursday will be an early out day.   Dismissal will be at 1:15 pm.

Say Boo to the Flu

We will have community nurses here on both nights of our Parent Teacher conferences to provide flu shots.   Please bring your insurance card; most insurances pay for the immunization.  They’ll be here from 3:00-7:00 both nights set up in our outdoor classroom (if the weather is good).

Lockdown Drill today

Today we had our Lockdown drill to practice what to do in case there’s a safety situation inside our building.   All classroom doors were quickly locked and windows covered with black paper, and exterior doors were unlocked to allow emergency response to get inside and help.  Students were great and stayed quiet throughout the drill, which lasted less than 5 minutes.  Each month we practice a different drill so we are ready in case of emergency.  If we ever need to evacuate our campus, we have an arrangement to meet in the church across the street from us.  You could pick up your child there through our check-out process.

I’ve included the information again this week and placed it at the end of this email.

DLI Parent Orientation for parents of 5th graders

What happens when Dual Language Immersion (DLI) students transition from fifth-grade to middle school or from eighth-grade to high school? Answers to these questions, and more, will be explained through the CSD’s Annual Orientation for parents of secondary DLI learners.  Families can access the Orientation, along with other resources, on CSD’s online learning portal Canvas anytime between Monday, Sept. 19, and Friday, Nov. 4, 2022. Canyons curriculum specialists will discuss course pathways, high school bridge courses, and the intent-to-continue process that fifth- and eighth grade DLI students are required to complete in order to continue in the program. DLI specialists will be available for a virtual Q & A session via Zoom on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 4-6 p.m. The Zoom link can be accessed on the Canvas page linked above. Questions? Please email dli@canyonsdistrict.org for more information.
