- Discussion Items
- Principal Presentation: SCC Roles and Trainings – Information
Principal Wagner shared upcoming SCC District training sessions. All members encouraged to attend, mandatory attendance for Principal and Chair.
- Principal Presentation: Selection of Chair and Vice Chair – Action
Principal Wagner shared bylaws and shared that we needed to elect a Chair and first asked if we had any volunteers. Some members expressed a potential interest in a co-chair position, but no one was able to commit to being the chair. One visiting member expressed interest in being chair, but acknowledged that she was not yet a voting member. Ms. Wagner said she would need to reach out to District representatives to discuss our capacity and bylaws rules to see if we have room for additional members. Motion to table until next meeting for additional information. Motion seconded. Yea: all members. Motion to table to October SCC meeting approved.
- Principal Presentation: FTE Adjustments and Land Trust/TSSP – Information
Principal Wagner shared recent changes to FTE following enrollment adjustments. SCC discussed District long-range planning and impact on Silver Mesa. An SCC member asked if new boundaries have the potential to help Silver Mesa. Ms. Wagner shared that at this time, she has not been made aware of boundary changes that will have an impact on Silver Mesa enrollment. Ms. Wagner shared that Silver Mesa was given an FTE allocation of 21.5 FTE in March, 2025. As a school and SCC we chose to fund an additional .5FTE for MTSS support to help reduce class sizes and provide more collaboration opportunities for teachers. After our 10-day count, Silver Mesa enrollment was significantly lower than anticipated leading to an FTE reduction of 2, from 21.5 to 19.5 FTE. Silver Mesa is still overhired by .5FTE based on new allocations, but are going to continue to fund the additional .5 to keep class sizes smaller. Ms. Wagner shared that she asked for clarification if an amendment was needed, but she was told by district leadership that because the funding for MTSS support and instruction was funded out of the same budget allocation for Salaries and Benefits, but it’s a change in the individual providing the service, we do not need an amendment. Ms. Wagner shared that it was important that we discussed the matter of FTE so we’re all clear on the challenges to long-range planning and this conversation remains an open and ongoing conversation for transparency. Megan Taylor asked if there was a capped number of students in each class. Ms. Wagner shared that there are CSD practice guidelines for how many students should be in each class and those are the guidelines used by planning and enrollment for FTE, but there is no law in Utah capping class sizes.
- Member/Community Concerns and Comments
Ginger Broadbent shared concerns about health and safety leading into the flu season about hand sanitizer. Discussed that we would bring this to our grade-level teams and the building leadership team to discuss and add more personal hygiene care to wash hands before lunch as a life skill in addition to ordering district-approved hand sanitizer.
