Dear Parents,

Thank you so much to PTA and for our community members who helped feed our teachers last week during conferences.  It was very much appreciated!

 

DLI Lottery Window

If you have a kindergarten student that you are wanting to apply for the dual language immersion program that starts in 1st grade, the window is now open.  Even if you have a current student in the program, you must apply online for your upcoming first grader.

  • October 3, 2022 – Application portal opens
  • October 13, 2022 – Parent meeting  The Parent meeting for the DLI Lottery will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 6:30 – 8:00 in the Canyons Center.
  • November 21, 2022 – Application window closes

Money needs to be in by Oct 5th! Click here to make your student(s) selections.  Did you know that the money collected from the Fundraiser allows us as a PTA to provide……Field trips, Class holiday parties, Red Ribbon Week, White Ribbon Week, Reflections, Book Fair, Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Watch D.O.G.S., Teacher appreciation week, Safety Patrol, Literacy Night, STEAM night, Masterpiece Music, Jr Achievements, Choir, Field Day and much more! Thank you for your support!

We will be holding our board meetings the 1st Tuesday of each month. We encourage all (member or not) to attend. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you have to our Principal Ms. Fielding and to discuss what/how the PTA supports our school. We’d love to have a variety of voices and perspectives. Students of Silver Mesa! SHOW US YOUR VOICE! Reflections 2022 is here! The theme is “Show your voice”. We love to see your original creations in dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, 2D and 3D visual arts.

Reflection will need to be submitted online by Friday Nov. 4, 2023. Click here for further information. Now go create!

First Lego League

Silver Mesa is forming a Lego robotics team for 4th and 5th graders!  If you love Legos, coding, and science you should apply to be on the team.  Applications are due by October 9th.  Fill out this application form.  The team will meet on Wednesdays after school during the fall and winter and will compete on a Saturday in January or February.  More details are available in the application.

 

Utah PTA is hosting this online workshop

ENSURING STRENGTH-BASED IEPs: The Importance of both home and school data. Speaker: Liz Capone, M.S., Advocate and certified expert witness in Special Education. Decoding Dyslexia UT presents this free online workshop on Tuesday, October 4th at 7:00 pm. 

If your child receives special education services, this will be a helpful workshop for you. Gain tips on ensuring that your child’s needs and strengths are reflected in their IEP. This workshop will discuss how to ask data-centered questions in the IEP meeting, how to set up home data collection and how to package and present your child’s strengths to the IEP team, and more. Oct. 31st—Halloween Parade;  8:30 start with students inside the school.  We will be outside for parents to watch starting at about 8:40 or so.   Bring a chair and watch our students parade from the west side of the playground over to the south side and back into the building.
