Monday Minute

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow night is STEAM Night, and we’re excited to see families enjoy the fun activities that have been planned.  We will be having a science assembly during school that will be super fun, and the scientist will be coming back to present at 5:30, so mark the time for that.  The other events are not time-sensitive going from 6-8 pm, and it will be open-house style.   Extra parking will be available on the south playground.  The gate near the main crosswalk will be open and you can park on the playground.  The front door and north door will be open and our student council will have maps of the various activities that are happening.   See you there!

Spirit Day

Every Friday is Spirit Day at Silver Mesa, and we encourage students to wear their school shirts or our school colors—Blue and White.  One Friday a month our Student Council designates a special spirit day.  This Friday is “Anything But a Backpack” Day.  Students can join the fun by bringing anything but a backpack to hold their school items they bring to and from school that day.  

Science Fair

Congratulations to all who participated in our Science Fair!  And thank you PTA for sponsoring this fun event.  You can see all the projects when you come to STEAM night tomorrow.  Here’s a list of those who placed in each grade:

Teacher of the Year

We’d love to hear from you about our awesome teachers and who you’d like to nominate for Teacher of the Year here at Silver Mesa.  Here’s a link for the nomination form.   The due date to nominate a teacher is Feb. 6th.  We have great teachers here and would love to get lots of nominations.  Thanks!

Kindness Is Cool

Here are some examples of kindness happening at our school these past couple of months.  We have the best students!

Max Johnson (4th grade) – pushing in chairs for others without being asked

Courtney Oviatt (4th grade) – helping put away laptops for others

Colton Turnip (5th grade) – helping their friends to solve problems and for being kind with the class by opening the door after recess everyday

Carter Self (5th grade) – always brightening my day with his great smile

Claire Featherston (5th grade) – always looking for ways to help other in class

Chloe Thomas (4th grade) – helping another student get through the snow

Rosie Lowder & Maddy Montero (4th grade) – picking up trash during recess!

Jan. 24th—STEAM Night for students and families—Don’t miss this fun event!  5:30 assembly; 6-8 Open House

Jan. 26th-27th—Mid-year Acadience testing in math and reading; These assessments are short screeners for all students.  

Jan. 27th—Spirit Day; our Student Council has chosen “Anything But a Backpack Day” for this Friday.  We look forward to seeing some creative non-backpacks!

Jan. 31st—Swig Spirit Night; 9470 S Highland Dr.

Feb. 6th-10th—Candy Grams are being sold at lunch recesses

   STEAM Night is an open-house event where students and families can come and explore different
