Monday Minute

Dear Parents,

This Friday is our annual Science Fair, and next Tuesday is our STEAM Night event.  WE look forward to both of these activities.  Thank you, PTA, for planning great activities for our school!

Teacher of the Year

It’s that time of year our community gets to participate in the process of selecting Silver Mesa’s Teacher of the Year who will also be entered in the District Teacher of the Year.  The nomination process is an online form that is easy to fill out.  Please access the nomination form here.   The due date to nominate a teacher is Feb. 6th.  We have great teachers here and would love to get lots of nominations.  Thanks!

A note from our Instructional Coach

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been exciting to be part of the implementation of our new English Language Arts curriculum for all of our students as the new instructional coach here at Silver Mesa.  I am so proud of our teachers for their dedication and patience with learning and implementing two new and rigorous curriculums; it has not been easy.  Our Wonders program supports student comprehension.  Our 4-5 grade students performed so well with their mid-year Reading Inventory tests and showed great gains.  I know that the Wonders program is a big part of that success.  Our 95% Core Phonics program has helped to fill in the gaps of student phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling and decoding skills.  Our district has opted to adopt both literacy programs in order to fit the needs of our students.  You may see some unused pages in your students’ workbooks coming home.  This is normal and expected.  There is far too much content to cover and our teachers are strategic about which parts of the program they implement.  As always, reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions on any unfinished work.  We appreciate your support and dedication to your child’s learning.

Kindness Is Cool

Here are some examples of kindness happening at our school these past couple of months.  We have the best students!

Emiliano Padillo (5th grade) – watching out for other students and offering to help out

Mason Cox (5th grade) – always showing kindness to his teacher

Clint Wallace & Louie Bollinger (Kindergarten) – helping put chairs down in the mornings

Evelyn Trujillo (Kindergarten) – offering to partner up with someone who didn’t have a friend

Hadley Madsen (5th grade) – donated boxes of Kleenex and threw in a diet Dr Pepper for the teacher

Capri Norman (1st grade) – helping the teacher put chairs away after music practice
