Dear Eagles,
We are seeking your feedback on our proposed fee schedule for the 2020-2021 school year. This fee schedule was created in accordance with changes in the Utah Code and Utah State Board of Education Rules governing student fees. We would like to invite input from families prior to the Canyons Board of Education considering it for possible adoption during their regular business meetings on March 3 and March 17. Parents are welcome to attend those meetings and provide public comment. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are held in the Board Chambers in the Canyons District Office, 9361 S. 300 East in Sandy.
Our newly-designed schedule is interactive, easily accessed on our website – https://feeschedules.canyonsdistrict.org/#/home/158 – and aims to meet new, state-mandated requirements for accountability and providing equity in access to curricular and extra-curricular activities. Elementary schools may only charge fees for performing arts programs and musical instrument rentals. For a detailed explanation of how the fees are spent, click on the blue-and-white lowercase “i” adjacent each fee.
Any feedback you can provide me prior to Feb. 28 is much appreciated. Please also feel free to email me with any questions you may have at julie.fielding@canyonsdistrict.org. Thank you for your continued support of Silver Mesa.
Parent/Teacher Conferences This Week
Thanks to everyone who scheduled a time to meet with your child’s teacher. We look forward to seeing you in our building this week to discuss your child’s progress. There will be no school this Friday because of conferences happening both Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Thursday is an early out day to accommodate conferences. School will dismiss at 1:15.

Boxtops
Congratulations to our amazing Eagles for reaching our box tops goal of $1,000. Keep sending in box tops so we can blow our goal out of the water!
We are in our last week of the February contest to win a Silver Mesa drawstring backpack. Please send in all those clipped box tops by this Thursday. We will announce the winners next week.
The kids have earned their extra recess and popsicles on the playground. We will be having our extra recess in the next few weeks, and popsicles sometime after Spring Break when the weather gets a little warmer. Thank you for your support to our school by taking the time to clip and send in those Box Tops, and for scanning your receipts!

Thank you for volunteering to teach Junior Achievement at Silver Mesa Elementary! We are now utilizing a Sign-Up Genius form to track volunteers for each class, and to have you sign the electronic consent. Parent Teacher Conference Week
February is quickly coming to a close & parent teacher conferences are this week. We love our teachers and are grateful for the very LONG hours they put in during parent teacher conference week so we like to spoil them with meals. Please help us make next week a little easier on our teachers by signing up HERE:

Also, if you wish to, this is a great time to donate hand sanitizer, tissues, sanitizer wipes, pencils or other classroom items. Many teachers pay for these things out of their own pockets in order to have them in their classes so all donations are greatly appreciated.
Literacy Night Help Needed
Calling all witches and wizards! Literacy Month starts in two weeks!!! Eeek!
We are looking for parents, grandparents, and siblings to help pull off our magical weeks of learning and fun. Some needs require creative enthusiasm (dress as a Harry Potter character, teach/run a class), some require a warm body, and some needs are simply to assemble and prep. There’s a way everyone can help. Please click on the links below to find out how. We could really use some help with decorating this Thursday (any time you can give is appreciated) and during quidditch games next week during lunchtime (SO MUCH FUN!).
Literacy Month Sign-ups–these volunteer jobs are daytime or at-home jobs for the weeks leading up to literacy night. Follow this link to see how you can help:

Link to 5th Grade Maturation Programs
Canyons District’s informational maturation program for fifth-grade students and their parents is coming up in March. Presentations will be conducted by a professional speaker. All parents are encouraged to attend these free events with their children, and to choose which date best fit their schedules, so that they can continue the discussion in their homes. Fifth-grade teachers have been provided double-sided maturation flyers in English and Spanish to distribute during Parent-Teacher Conferences.
