Agenda items:

Approve last month’s minutes and review action items–Approved

Finalize Safety Plan—We reviewed last month’s discussion and finalized the Safety Plan

Digital Citizenship Report—Megan Guzman shared her role as coordinator for digital citizenship. We discussed Silver Mesa’s plan for the year and it was approved.

·      monthly tips for teachers to focus on with their students

·      Brain Booster lessons for all students

  • Digital Citizenship Week in October
  • PTA’s sponsor of White Ribbon Week in November
  • Reminders in the Monday Minute

The committee asked if there were controls for parents to use at home to block unwanted content.  Megan is looking into that and will let us know if the district has some resources for families.

Safe Routes to school discussion

School-based safety concerns:

  • Handicapped access to main crosswalk. Could the sidewalk be flattened there to allow wheelchair access?

Neighborhood-based concerns:

  • Are the flashing lights working on the crosswalk at Falcon Park?
  • Could we add a crosswalk across Richard Road at Newcastle? There is currently a crosswalk over Newcastle with a crossing guard, and the same crossing guard could potentially help students cross Richard Road as well.

Approve allocation of Cell tower funds

Silver Mesa has received $2406.24 from cell tower funds located at other schools in the district.  The committee approved the use of these funds for spirit reinforcers for adults and students.

School happenings

  • 3 assemblies in December from our own students—school choir; 3rd grade program; school orchestra.
  • Emergency drill this month is a Hold drill. This is for times when there is an issue in the halls or area of the building that you wouldn’t want students nearby (a medical emergency, a student fight in a secondary school, a mechanical failure, etc.).  Students and teachers continue as usual but are held in the classroom until the incident is taken care of.
