Monday Minute 4.21.2020 & Video

Dear Eagles,

We are so sad that school will not resume for this year.  We were hoping to be able to come back in May and finish the year with everyone together.  While we are disappointed, we know we can do hard things.  Thanks for all your support with online learning.  We recognize it is not easy for families.  Please know that we understand.  If you miss some days of instruction, let that go and just focus on the next day.  The teachers would love to see your children in their Morning Meetings to connect with them face to face.   Please let us know if you have problems or concerns so we can help.  We are a community!

Staffing for next year

We have some teachers that are moving positions next year.

Miss Orosco will be switching from Dual Immersion first grade to the English-only class in first grade.

Ms. Latoni will be switching from Dual Immersion 3rd grade to Dual Immersion 1st grade.

We will have a new hire joining us for our Dual Immersion 3rd grade position.  Her name is Natalie Wilkinson, and she comes highly recommended.

Learning Environment Requests

Attached is a Learning Environment Request for next year.  Learning Environment Request Form

Zupas Tomorrow Night!

Even though our worlds have been turned upside-down there is one constant that we can count on and that is Zupas. Our business partners are committed to making sure they honor their commitment given to Silver Mesa at the start of the year. Even though business for them has changed they will be giving a portion of their proceeds the evening of Tuesday April 21 @5-8pm back to our school. If you plan to eat out Tuesday night, make it a Zupas night. When you go please remember to thank the employees on behalf of Silver Mesa Elementary for honoring their commitment to serve our school and our community. Go to cafezupas.com or use the Café Zupas app to order.

House cup winners

Since we will not be returning school we wanted to announce the house cup winners for literacy month. Way to go to all of our readers for your hard work. It was close but we offer Congratulations to Ravenclaw house! You have won the house cup and receive all bragging rights!

Teacher appreciation

We are so grateful for all of the hard work of our teachers. On our original calendar we had planned to hold our annual teacher appreciation week. We are still going to have teacher appreciation on April 27th – May 1st. Please help us by showing your appreciation to your teacher. Our theme for teacher appreciation is My Favorite Things. We would like you to tell your teacher what your favorite things are about them. You can send a video or sing a song, write a card or make a picture. By now you all have a means of digital communication with each of your teachers. Please send your “Favorite Thing” through your teachers medium to let them know you appreciate them. You can learn some things about your teachers favorite things on our website, www.silvermesapta.org, like their favorite color or foods. Unfortunately, giving  physical gifts is harder. If you wish to give a physical gift to your teacher you may leave them at the school ONLY on the day the principal allows us to come pick up physical belongings. PLEASE do not drop things off at the school for your teachers before that time.

Regional PTA Request

In keeping with teacher appreciation our Regional PTA would like to make a fun video for our teachers. They have asked us to create chalk art pictures (or any art if you don’t have chalk). They want us to send these pictures to them to create a fun video for all the teachers in our area. Please send your pictures to silvermesapta@gmail.com NO LATER than May 15th. Thank you for helping to give a shout out to our teachers by sending your pictures in!

Book fair

This is the event we all look forward to in the spring and I am pleased to announce it is still going to happen! That’s right, we are still going to have a book fair. It will look a little different this year as it will be fully digital. The fair will last two weeks. May 4th-15th. You can peruse all titles that scholastic has to offer and any orders (of books) over $25 will have free shipping! This is wonderful for Silver Mesa because 25% of all your book purchases come right back to Silver Mesa. This helps us buy books for the library, classrooms and coupon events. Look for the book fair LINK in coming Monday Minute notices.

Skate night

Our previously scheduled Classic Skate night has been postponed until the fall. Please look for an email from PTA in the August to announce our skate night event.

PTA MEETINGS

We do need to have an end of year meeting to vote on a new board and discuss next years events and budget. Please join us MAY 12th @1pm on Zoom to be a part of these decisions. Zoom meeting link will be sent out in the Monday Min May 11th.
