Monday Minute 3.14.2022

Dear Parents,

Last week we enjoyed Quidditch matches, Honeydukes store, and freed some house elves by donating new pairs of socks.  We’ll continue that this next week as well.  Students are working on getting their reading minutes to add to their house points.  We love the fun focus on literacy this month!

Literacy Month

We had a great first week at Silver Mesa School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!  Our first Reading Minutes are due Monday.  This is a green sheet in your student packet.  Reading minutes turned in earn points for your child’s house.

We still need help with Quidditch (all week–LAST week), the Owlery (Thursday) and Honeydukes 2nd shift Thursday.  Click here to sign up.  If we want this fun tradition to continue at Silver Mesa, it will be helpful to have parents learn how different parts of this month run, so that it CAN continue when some of the founding members “graduate.”

We also need help at Literacy Night We have spots for Silver Mesa Alumni to come serve as “prefects” at our Study Hall.  We’d love to have back some former SM students to help out!

Last but not least, a clarification: Student Council’s sock fundraiser is for CLEAN, NEW pairs of socks.  Although dirty old socks might free house elves, clean, new socks are needed for Midvale’s Road Home.  5 points are awarded per each pair of socks!

Maturation Programs for 5th grade—3 dates left

To ensure fifth-grade students and their parents are able to take advantage of Canyons District’s popular maturation program, eight presentations have been scheduled through the month of March at four locations. The aim with this program is to provide consistent, sensitive and approved health and maturation instruction districtwide. All girls and boys presentations are conducted by Carrie Ann Kemp, a popular professional speaker who has been educating and entertaining young audiences, and their parents, for more than 20 years. Families may attend the presentation that best fits their schedule. Parents are advised to leave younger siblings at home.  A schedule of dates and locations is at the end of this email.
