Discussion Items

  • Presentation Digital Citizenship  – Information

Kristi Kunzler, Silver Mesa Digital Citizenship Specialist, updated the council about CSD digital citizenship initiatives. A video from ISD, External Relations, and IT was shared providing information about responsible use guidelines, web filtering systems, digital citizenship curriculum within Thrive Time and Common Sense Schools. Discussed community communication. Council suggested information be added to the community newsletter this week “wrapping up” Digital Citizenship Month, and then an ongoing, quarterly message moving forward. Aimee will add quarterly updates similar to attendance and safety in the form of “Did You Know…” Council discussed that web filtering system updates that parents now receive notifications when admin does. Aimee shared that she will not call for every notice, but instead work with teachers to remind students to be responsible users of technology. However, if anything unsafe is reported or searched, admin and/or school wellness staff will reach out to families. Council stated that is the type of information that should be shared with families.

  • Principal Presentation: Bylaws Discussion – Action

Discussed adjustments to bylaws to remove “personal issues” to appropriately include “personnel issues”. Council discussed that 2 additional parents have come forward wanting to join the SCC after the first meeting. Discussed if it would be appropriate to amend the bylaws to increase membership. Council determined that we would not amend bylaws to increase membership due to potential issues in the future with amending bylaws to accommodate individuals who decided to join late. Council discussed that anyone can join SCC meetings, but they wouldn’t be voting members. Jonelle motioned to approve the SCC bylaws. Kimberly seconded the motion. All present members voted in favor. Motion carried. Bylaws will be updated on the website and principal assurances updated on the state website.
